I meant that if you're only going to read one, this should be it. But of course you should read as many Russian SF novels as you can get your hands on — though sadly a lot of the translations are not very good. Read more

Happy tofurkey day to you too! I'll be eating dinosaur meat. :) Read more

This list is about the deep history of Earth. Both of those books focus on human evolution, and Diamond's book in particular focuses on (comparatively) recent human history. So they don't really fit here, though they are both good books. Read more

Yes, that's a great one. It deals with a lot more than Earth's history, but is definitely high on my list for pretty much any book list dealing with science. Read more

I thought about including that one but since it's mostly focused on evolution, rather than Earth itself, I put it aside. Kind of splitting hairs there. It's a really, really great book. Read more

Actually, there is a fantastic new book out this year called (wait for it) Dinosaur Art: The World's Greatest Paleoart, edited by Steve White. It was put together in consultation with paleontologists, and includes accurate, beautiful dinosaur art. Highly recommended! Read more

Apparently, at least according to the WaPo article I read, the Twinkie brand is valueless. Ding Dongs and HoHos will probably get snatched up, but nobody wants to buy Twinkies. Read more

I have spent decades being mildly repulsed by Twinkies. But suddenly, today, I am craving them! I have retro future food nostalgia! And no, I don't want your homemade vegan alternative. I WANT A PIECE OF CAKE MADE BY ROBOTS. Read more

I am excite! And that's a feeling I haven't had about Supernatural for a while. Read more

Yeah I'm going to go with "no it wasn't really canceled if it led to multiple movies and subsequent TV series." You are just wrong. Read more

Definitely. For bigger explosions, we'll go further from the office for sure. Read more

Well, we don't know if she's a Big Good, a Big Bad, or some combination of both. I am hoping desperately for something more complicated than Eve or the Leviathans. Read more
