Like I said, "When it does eventually die, it will likely be because its gears have worn out. Fuel supply will almost certainly not be an issue." Its mission is roughly two Earth-years long, and that's all NASA wants to come out and say it's good for. Think of it like a warranty. The company says it'll last at least Read more

Yeah, I mean, it would have to be at just the right angle on a slope for that to work. Hopefully it will never come up. Read more

That's right! The Mose Code thing is one of those JPL secrets. An early prototype of the wheels actually bore the letters J P L, but NASA nixed it for being too self-promotional, so they went with this sneakier method. I love it. Do you have a JPL connection or something? Read more

Nope. Sadly it does not have self-righting capabilities. I asked one of the designers what would happen if it rolled. He said, "Game over." Luckily it has a very wide wheelbase and a low center of gravity. Fingers crossed. Read more

Going eyes-on with the software, I have to say this may be the best usage of 3D I've ever seen. A) It looked amazing. Almost as if it were designed by rocket scientists. B) It's an actual, practical use. 3D doesn't just have to be used for making movies worse! Read more
