Well, not JUST as effective. Someone could still (theoretically) crack both passwords from afar. 2-step verification means someone basically has to hack a password, then find you in meat space AND steal your phone. 2 passwords would make it way harder to hack you (in some cases), but not quite as hard as 2-step. I'm actually not personally opposed to the whole phablet thing, because I basically use my phone like a tiny 3G tablet anyways. And I ALWAYS have headphones attached, so that's generally how I talk. In that use-case, they seem pretty cool. Read more
