I do disagree that the more "real" it looks, the easier it is to get lost in a movie. At least for now, we need that subtle sense of non-reality that 24 fps provides. Higher frame rates evoke a mundane feeling. Or at least we have been trained to perceive it that way. Read more

I think that making things look "more real" is actually a mistake. Cinema is supposed to transport you out of reality in a way. Instead of more real, more immersive should be the goal. If 24 fps has a psychological effect of suspending your disbelief somehow, then i say stick with it. Read more

Good question, Faslane. I remember spooling film through Steenbeck flatbed editing machines in college. They are generally referred to as "plates" and I think they just aid in mainting tension as the film rolls back and forth. And the more plates, the more precise and controlled the movement of the film can be. Read more
