Assess what types of pictures you like to take, first off. If you shoot sports or high-speed action, a more expensive model with a higher frame rate is what you want. If you are shooting more casually and like walking around a lot with your cam, maybe a lighter Rebel is right for you. Read more

There is no doubt significantly more heft in those higher-end models. But that can be of some appeal! I usually shoot with a 7D and 5D MK3, and when i was carrying around the T4i, the lightness of it was so refreshing. That said, there are TONS of other factors involved, like the ones you stated. The 40mm lens is not the kit lens. You can buy a T4i kit with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6, or with the new 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 with STM. Read more
