It’s also interesting to watch it as straight-up parody of the hamfisted patriotic war movies of the 1940s, like 12-O’Clock High or A Walk in the Sun. Watch a couple of those and suddenly the wooden dialog and cheesy love story in Starship make a ton of sense, and is amazing juxtaposed against the gore and nudity.
