"Thriller," Screaming Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell on You," and "Halloween Shindig" by Ed Twilley and the Creepers are obviously Halloween classics. But few songs balance "eternal sleep" and "clean holiday fun" quite like the late Sheldon Allman's 1961 tune "Children's Day at the Morgue." (Allman was also the singing voice for Mr. Ed.)
It's further worth mentioning that Allman composed a number of toe-tapping, Cold-War-era ditties about nuclear apocalypse, which are pretty spectacular in their own right. [Via WFMU]
