This week in the world of cartoons...well, I'll level with ya. Not a lot of new cartoons aired this week due to tweaks in pre-Christmas holiday scheduling. We did, however get new episodes of Tron: Uprising and MLP: Friendship is Magic, as well as a very funny Marvel Mash-Up.
The greatest cartoon gift of all comes this week in the form of clips from the most infamous holiday special ever as well as what might be the worst Christmas special of all-time.
As always - minor spoilers ahead!
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ā "Apple Family Reunion"
It's a Granny Smith and Applejack episode!
Applejack takes the family helm to head up the massive Apple Family Reunion, leaving Applejack with her hands full for one of the most chaotic gatherings of the year.
Tron: Uprising ā "The Stranger"
Tron is currently off the rails, leaving Beck exposed for a trap. While captive, Beck receives a piece of knowledge that completely changes his view of his working relationship with Tron.
Oh, yeah ā there's a super-weapon underdevelopment too, with Abe doing the dirty work to track down information on the devastating new armament.
Marvel Mash-Up ā "X-Men Part 1"
Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends meet an early 1980s version of the X-Men (i.e. pre-awesome Cyclops) in this mash-up. In the process the X-Men attend a holiday party and attempt to cut public service announcements.
Star Wars Holiday Special ā "The Faithful Wookie"
One of the few bright spots from 1979's Star Wars Holiday Special, the production company Nelvana (Care Bears, Droids, Ewoks) created a six and a half minute short featuring the voices of the cast of A New Hope.
The cartoon features the first appearance of Boba Fett, looking more bad-ass than ever as he rides in on a plesiosaur in the above clip.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ā "We Wish You a Turtles Christmas"
1994's "We Wish You a Turtles Christmas" may be the best argument I've ever seen or heard to abandon the holiday season altogether.
The live-action theme song itself is bad enough to make the most jaded of viewers run.
If the intro isn't bad enough, the Turtles continue to sing, moving on to a reggae version of "Deck the Halls". I found this on the internet, therefore the internet should be destroyed. Skynet cannot succeed.
In this special, the Ninja Turtles have really, really bad Italian accents. The premise of the special revolves around hunting down a Christmas present for Splinter on Christmas Eve, with this storyline initiated through dialogue for a couple of minutes before the Turtles dive back into song.
