You're not allowed to see the CIA's postmortem photos of Osama bin Laden. But that doesn't mean they can't be described to you! Sen. James Inhofe got a chance to see the pictures today, because he is a fancy boy, and the Oklahoma Republican was very excited to tell everyone about it. In, uh, detail. They're "gruesome"!
"The brains were coming out of his socket," he told the Atlantic Wire, saying that the photos were "taken right after the instant he was shot." Inhofe, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, is the second Congressperson to see the photos, and the first to speak on the record. (Sen. Scott Brown saw some fake photos, and told everyone they were real, the dummy.)
"Brains... coming out of his socket" not gross enough for you? Inhofe got very detailed when he described it to Shep Smith on Fox News later in the evening:
Then they had some of his ear. Now, what had happened in those, I couldn't tell whether the bullet went through the ear and out the eye cavity or through the eye and out the ear because a lot of brains were draped out from the socket.
Later, Inhofe attempted to dispel the rumor that part of bin Laden's skull was gone:
It appeared that way at first. Then when you saw the other pictures later, you could tell it wasn't that way. Now, what happened was if the bullet went into the eye socket, then it was an explosive, it detonated once it was in so that caused the brain to come back out of the eye socket. That's what made it look so gruesome.
And, speaking of gross, bin Laden was apparently wearing what "you would call underwear" when he was shot. Inhofe says the photos would dispel any remaining conspiracy theories, as the body depicted is clearly bin Laden's, and he's advocating for the release of (at least) the three photos taken on board the U.S.S. Carl Vinson, which are less gruesome and "much more reasonable to show [to] the public."
