This week in the world of cartoons, we revisit the era of the VHS tape on Regular Show, the Avengers release a few deadly prisoners, and Finn smooches with the Flame Princess.
Tired of the Olympics already? I don't blame you. To make up for the Michael Phelps love fest on television, I'm including a nearly ancient G.I. Joe clip from one of their most bizarre episodes ever.
Gravity Falls is off, but will return in early August. Tron Uprising is absent too, but check out the San Diego Comic-Con preview of the next episode, "Scars", below.
As always, minor spoilers ahead!
Adventure Time – "Burning Low"
Princess Bubblegum is not happy with Finn. The princess thinks he is spending a little too much time with the Flame Princess.
Princess Bubblegum might have reason to be jealous based on this clip, which features Jake explaining the "tiers" (or bases in our realm) of dating to Finn.
Ultimate Spider-Man – "Snow Day"
And lo, Spider-Man will fight a child! Sandman takes the form of a child in this clip and threatens Spider-Man's band of merry men and women as they take a vacation on a deserted tropical island.
I've never heard of super-teams taking vacations together. Do they do team building exercises on the island? That could make for one hell of a trust fall.
Regular Show – "The Best VHS in the World"
Well, this episode puts a chronological lynchpin in the series. Rigby and Mordecai have lost a VHS tape and accrued over a grand in late fees, putting their memberships at the Movie Shack Hut in jeopardy.
Roger Craig Smith voices the Movie Shack Hut manager in this clip. Smith is the voice of Chris Redfield in Resident Evil 5 & 6 and Ezio Auditore da Firenze in the Assassin's Creed series.
Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes – "Assault on 42"
In this episode, the Avengers escort super villain Whirlwind to 42 — a near impenetrable prison akin to "The Vault" in the Marvel Comics Universe. During their time in 42, Annihilus attacks and traps the Avengers in the prison.
The Avengers choose to make temporary alliances and free several imprisoned within 42, making for some awesome cameo opportunities in this clip.
Tron Uprising – SDCC "Scars" Preview
We've been without Tron Uprising for a few weeks, so here's a mix of finished and in-progress animation previewed at last month's San Diego Comic-Con.
An official return date for the series has yet to be announced. In the meantime, watch Wilfred.
G.I. Joe – "The Gods Below"
"The Gods Below" originally aired on November 11, 1985. This nearly twenty-seven year old episode blew my young mind when I viewed it in re-runs on USA. Decades later, this damn episode still doesn't make any sense.
In the episode Cobra breaks into Osiris' temple and hunts for treasure. Alright, I'm fine with that plot point. But before the end of the episode, we see giant snakes give speeches, Baroness pull one over on the Egyptian god Seth, and G.I. Joes dressed as members of the Crimson Guard fly around on a giant ankh. All of this bizarre action is presented in its classic VHS-recorded glory in this clip.
