I used my canon rebel t3i with a 28-135mm lens. This picture was taken at 135mm f/8 iso 125 and a shutter speed of 1/320. When I think of summer I think of being at the beach relaxing or out on the boat just enjoying the weather so when I decided to go out this weekend I wanted to try and capture both.

I was in a resort in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic onAugust 19th. I look up as I was swimming and noticed a Rainbow halo"floating" around the 12pm sun. I jumped out of the pool and boltedtowards to my room - almost slipped from running too fast - grabbed my camera and rushed back to the pool area. I snapped a few dozen pictures by positioning several items such as the palm trees featured in the photo to hide the sunrays. I think it came out pretty good at the end...

Living in Sarasota in the summers often means hot and afternoon rain showers. Siesta Key beach is world famous for its white quartz sand and post-card sunsets. I was out on the key this evening and brought my camera. It had just rained earlier, and some of the rain clouds started to break apart, leaving a window of color in the sky during sunset. My favorite sunsets aren't the clear blue sky ones, but the ones with clouds scattered throughout picking up all the different colors. There was nearly no breeze leaving the water calm. Really a beautiful night to be out on the beach near the ocean.

When I was traveling through Venice Beach, California, I saw this man juggling some bowling pins with the fish bowl on his head! It just shouts summer to me because my summers have always been full of trips to Venice Beach, complete with its different clothing, types of people, and colorful prints! My favorite part, though, is the street artist culture because they're so fresh and fun and define the personality of Venice Beach. I've spent so many summers trying to match the acts of all the talented performers. When I took this photo, I had just passed a big man in a bright pink speedo with some gold chains around his neck and I saw this fantastic juggler!! It was so much fun to talk with him.

My first vacation in 3 years when I was finally able to visit my parents in their brand new vacation house in Bodrum, Turkey. A very special swimming pool right on the cliff facing to this amazing scenery of Yahsi Bay. My beer was on the cooler while I was capturing this "moment of tranquility". I wish I had one of these on the backyard of my apartment in Astoria.

How convenient that the "Summer" theme fell on the weekend of my Hawaiian vacation. I found a great perch about 12 stories up on Waikiki beach and snapped this pano. I'm positive this shot has been printed on thousands of postcards for the past few decades but at least this one I can call mine.

Fountain of Youth
My niece, Amari, LOVES water. She cannot get enough. One day as she was playing around the backyard, she merrily jumped into the pool, fully clothed, followed by my terrified father diving in after her. She surfaced happily kicking and laughing, while dad was in relief knowing that the only thing lost was his submerged cell phone. Anyways...this photo was taken doing what she loves most.

Dog Dreaming: The Final Days of Summer
This is after we were at the dog park for about a hour and then walked around the park for about 20 minutes. Plus there was some kind of Puerto Rican festival so all the people made him quite a happy dog! At this point he's so exhausted that every time we stop walking he sits down. There were kids running around, adults drinking an assortment of beverages from lemonade, to beer, to margaritas. Vendors selling hotdogs, pizza, ice cream, etc. Happy couples holding hands and single men and women looking around just in case today is the they meet that special someone! It truly was a perfect summer day. Out of all the pictures I took, this one is what summer is all about; spending time with the people that matter. And for me, that's my dog!

A swimming pool at the mountain shows a relaxing and hot sun tanning, with a refreshing mushroom that like to stay in the picture.
The weather is hot and dry at 1000m of altitude in Summer far from the sea in Portugal, so this is one of the rare places where people try to avoid melting.
The image was slightly cropped and it was applied the tone curve assist from Canon DPP.

10AM Dream
After falling out of bed at 3AM to catch the sunrise at the
Philosopher's Tree we began the days's drive toward the northern end
of the Daisetsuzan national park. 10 minutes into the 2 hour drive I
caught a seemingly endless hill of sunflowers out of the corner of my
eye. Something so surreal it had to be a dream - an endless sea of
yellow, orange, blue.
Unfortunately, the signage said getting near the field was prohibited;
but, at certain times of the day my ability to read Japanese drops off
completely ;)
I assume signs like this are due to certain types of tourists pushing
into the fields to have their picture taken among the flowers. As we
had no such intent, I felt if we scrambled to get our shots, we would
still slide into base before being tagged out.

This picture sums up what summer meant to me as a child and what summer means to me now. Playing outside with the other kids, and now watching my daughter and her cousins enjoying the beautiful outdoors, weird sun tan marks and all. Summer is about making memories with the ones you love.

When I think of summer, one of the big things I think of are weddings. I was at a wedding over the weekend and one of my favorite places to get photos is when the bride and groom go outside. Though it usually too bright and too hot to be standing outside, it is always a fun sight to see when they walk out and everyone is lined up. For this shot, I had actually setup my camera to pick up the bride and groom when they came outside, but would still be under the overhang and in the shadows. I kept shooting even though I knew that parts of the shot would be over exposed. When I got time to flip through the shots, I was happy to see that even though the details of the veil and dress were blown out, it created a halo effect and captured the bride in the perfect summer sun.
For the picture I used a Canon T2i with an attached Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. Photo specs: f/3.5, 1/100 sec, 100 ISO, 28mm.

Residential areas in Tokyo usually have an incredible amount of charm,
often overlooked as people rush from air-conditioned building to
air-conditioned building. I decided to brave the sweltering 90-degree
(34C) heat one afternoon to take some photos of various odds and ends
by my office, and I captured this image that really reflects the way I
visualize summer.

This was this week when I met up with my close friends from high
school. We were waiting for the last one to arrive, so we went around
the village with a basketball to play at a nearby court which we found
occupied, so we went to a field instead and they played football with
the wrong type of ball. I decided that it would be fun to try and
shoot the grass, so I put it on the ground and focused it. Suddenly,
the last one arrived. The one near went to greet him. I was able to
capture that moment - so much like summer, when people go to the nice
green outdoors with the people close to them.

My submission this week was taken this weekend while I was at a small beach in the Rocky Mountains near Radium Hot Springs, British Columbia, On a dock with my friends, we watched the dragonflies come and go for near 20 minutes before I was able to capture this one in one spot more than a couple seconds.
The photo was taken with a Canon T3i using my 55-250 lens. The focal length was 250, ISO 3200, f/5.6 and 1/400 sec shutter speed.

The first few months of the summer here in Vancouver, BC were less the great so I have been taking advantage of the sun whenever it decides to grace Vancouver with its presence. A few days ago, we had what may be the last great day that has lots of sun and no school for me so I decided to bring my camera along to take some pictures. Something about over edited shots makes them seem more summery too which is why I decided to make it look like it did!
