The New Retina MacBook Pros Are Gonna Cost $4000?! (Update: Not Quite)

9to5Mac just squeezed out another droplet of alleged MacBook news, and it looks pretty standard: faster MacBook Pros sporting fancy SSD hard drives. Makes sense. But the price tag for the fanciest MBPs? Gulp.

The three leaked models are as follows, presumably with retina-rubbing super-resolution displays:

MC975LL/A – MBP 15.4/2.3/8GB/256GB FLASH-USA
MC976LL/A – MBP 15.4/2.6/8GB/512GB FLASH-USA
MD831LL/A – MBP 15.4/2.7/16GB/768GB FLASH-USA

That spec spread looks totally expected. But this isn't expected:

We've been told that these will not be cheap and even pass the $4000 equivalent mark on the high end in some countries. Who's going to throw down for these?

If 9to5's ever-anonymous sources are correct, a $4000 laptop is an astoundingly expensive laptop that very few people will buy, which means the Pro in MacBook Pro just took on some real meaning, or this isn't true. Or maybe it'll just be a few countries that get screwed with engorged pricing, while the rest of the free world is safe. [9to5Mac]

Update: It turns out a fully loaded MBP costs $3750. Plus tax.
