These Cases For Your Shiny New Gadgets Are Your Deal of the Day

Seasonal gifting is finished. Your Amazon boxes are flattened, discarded wrapping paper is headed to the landfill, and there's a good chance Santa brought you a beautiful new gadget. There's also a slim chance you've already broken your new precious; don't laugh, here are nine idiots who've already done it. It's time to buy a case, slap it on, and forget about it. The good news is there are some pretty good case deals today.

If you have a Kindle: Amazon is running a pretty excellent 40% off promotion for Kindle accessories. They limit you to a pretty short list, but the good news is that Amazon's official options qualify. That includes the handsome leather cases for both the Kindle and the Kindle Paperwhite, and even the kickstand case for the Kindle Fire HD. These cases are nice, well-designed, and integrate beautifully with the newest Kindles. They're also usually a bit pricey.

The process to score the discount is a bit convoluted. First, pick up this free voucher from Amazon Local. They will email you a code. Pick a Kindle from this list, and at checkout apply the code they sent you, and you'll save 40%. [Amazon via Amazon Local]

If you've got an iDevice or Android phone: Bodyguardz makes cases for everything from the standard iPhone to tablets like the Nexus 7. There's most likely a case you'll like in there, but at full price it's a tough sale. The code KEEPITNEW knocks 20% off everything in the store, and there's free shipping for all orders over $30. If you spent all your money on gifts for loved ones: There's always a few third-party sellers on Amazon selling direct-from-China cases for cheap. They might not be the nicest, but they will protect your phone from moderate spills. Today, Monoprice is offering an iPhone 5 case for $6.88 shipped. Choose from black or white. [Amazon]

Important note: Apple gives its employees the week after Christmas off, and as a result iTunes Connect is down for the week. That's the software that allows developers to push updates and change prices, so you probably won't see any sales for the next week. But around the new year they should come back with a vengeance. In the meantime, a few cool games like Bust-a-Move and Resident Evil that went on sale before Christmas will remain cheap for the next week.
