There was a period of time on the internet where everybody wanted to see expensive new gadgets get blended. It was basically cringe porn; how else can you describe taking a brand new iPad and turning it into silicon dust? The reason that Blendtec ruined so many great gizmos, however, was noble in origin. They were trying to call attention to blenders as gadgets—if there was an version of rock, paper, scissors that was called iPod, Laptop, Blender, well, you'd know who'd win. But there are still some unanswered questions: what happens when you blend a blender?
Well, if you wanted to do that, you'd need a blender. The Blendtecs that chew through iPhones are professional blenders, and aren't really for people who blend in home kitchens, unless you're a stay-at-home smoothie maker. But if you buy the Breville IKON blender, which is on sale for $80 at Amazon today, you'll get almost all of the professional features of a Blendtec without the wallet-pureeing price. It all starts with the 750 watt direct-drive motor, which offers five different speeds. Also nice is the digital timer with an auto-off feature. And Breville's brushed aluminum industrial design will look great with your other appliances. The IKON is over $200 new at other sites, so this is a great opportunity to pick up a blender so you can test whether keys actually blend, or, y'know, make some tasty margaritas. [Amazon]
